Hot Yoga

The trial period of hot yoga has been a great success and very well attended. As you know we will be introducing a £5 charge to the classes from Monday 3rd February and have listened to your opinions regarding these charges in the feedback forms that you have completed. We would like to highlight, that these charges are not for profit and are simply in place to meet some of the cost of running the new classes and to react to demand if more classes need to be added to the timetable.

Hot Yoga is a specialist class that is usually only done in specialist hot yoga centres. We have introduced Hot Yoga to Stoke Park because of the feedback that we have been getting from many members attending Hot Yoga classes at other facilities in the surrounding area at a cost far greater. We would like to assure you that these charges will not be attached to any of our current classes on our fitness timetable in the future. Wednesday night Hot Flow Yoga will continue to be free for members who would like to try Yoga at 30°C before stepping up to the other classes at 40°C.

We will continue to ensure feedback forms are available, so please help us to improve the timetable and class variation by giving us your opinion. From the 3rd February the Hot Yoga timetable will follow much the same as the trial period, with two exceptions:

  • Friday will now become a 90min class starting at 11:30am
  • Wednesday morning will start at 11:15am.

We are aware that demand has been extremely high during the trial period and will quickly add more classes on to this timetable if this demand continues when the classes become chargeable.

Places in the class will continue to be booked from 7:30am a day in advance on a first come, first served basis. Classes can be paid for in blocks of ten (£50) or singles (£5), but must be paid in advance. Any future changes to our timetable will be posted on our website and notices displayed around the club.

Going forward we ask:

  • All members to bring their own yoga mats to use in class for hygiene reasons.
  • To close the door on entering the class to ensure the cold air is kept out and don not leave until the end of the class.
  • We ask out of respect for all taking part in the Hot Yoga classes to please leave footwear at the bottom of the stairs on the show rack and arrive a few minutes to spare to get your mat laid out and to begin your breathing techniques.
  • The instructors will be locking the doors at the beginning of each class, so that it is not disturbed - please respect that if you are late you can not enter the class.

Pre and Post Natal Training and Power Plate Training

Physical activity and reproduction are normal parts of life, combining regular exercise and pregnancy appears to benefit both mother and baby in many ways:

Increased sense of well being and self esteem

Improved posture and relief from backache

Reduction in pregnancy induced symptoms

Some effect on mothers ability to cope with labor, child birth and postnatal recovery.

Exercising with a personal trainer will ensure your workouts achieve the above benefits in a safe, structured and enjoyable manner!

Elena Paul is qualified YMCA Pre-Post Natal Gym Trainer and Post Natal Power Plate Trainer. For a free consultation please contact her in the gym on 01753 717104

Court Refurbishment

We are delighted to announce that we have finally received planning approval for floodlights on the all weather tennis courts. The permission is for 32 lights so will cover all four courts from a height of 6.7 metres.

We have also taken the decision to change the court surface at the same time. The artificial grass has served us well for seven years but the time has come to move to the latest technology. The courts will be fitted with Advantage Red Court artificial clay which combine the playing characteristics and appearance of clay with the benefits of an all-weather playing surface. As with traditional clay courts, play takes place on an unbound surface which allows players to develop and use slide in a controlled motion, allowing coverage of the whole court area with reduced effort and less stress on joints and ligaments. It offers a medium to slow surface pace with a uniform low bounce that allows some top spin and slice positive.

We are hoping to begin work in February and all being well will be finished by the middle of March ready for the beginning of the season in April.

Coach Profile: Adam Currie

My name is Adam Currie and I have recently joined the tennis coaching team here at Stoke Park. I work in a variety of different areas of the club's growing programme; from the tiny tots U5's session on Wednesday afternoons at 4.00-4.30, the ever improving ladies 3rd team squad and regularly competing juniors. As long as your happy to work hard we can move towards your aims and goals together in an effective and structured manner to gain consistent results… and I hope enjoy the process.

I myself gained a rating of a 2.1 whilst playing and competed from the age of 7 through till 18 playing for Middlesex and in National events as well as some international junior tournaments until I moved to coaching full time which I love.

Thank you all so much for such a warm welcome and if we haven’t met yet please come say hello (as long as I’m not mid point)…

Committee Meeting Minutes

We are pleased to announce that we will be rolling out the the membership category name from Health & Racquet to Tennis & Health (and Racquet to Tennis for Juniors) over the next few months.

The term Racquet was confusing to some people and we want to make clear we are committed to Tennis as a sport!

For those of you that are interested to know what was discussed at the recent committee meeting, please find a link to the minutes here. If you have anything that you would like to be raised at the next meeting, please speak to a member of the committee of e mail dgray@stokepark.com.

Current Tennis Groups

We have started lots of new groups for adults and juniors over the last six weeks. If you are interested to know what is going on at your club, please click the link here. If you have any other suggestions of questions please contact Phil Fowler at the the following e mail address tennis@stokepark.com

Junior Profile

Benji Orr-Ewing is 5yrs and 2 months old and is currently showing great ability in tennis. Not only is he technically advanced for his age, his attention to detail and concentration during lessons is outstanding!  He demonstrates his passion for the game by dragging mum and dad to the Club whereas sometimes it's normally the other way around, but not for Benji.

Benji Orr-Ewing has two older twin brothers called Zac and Elijah (8yrs) who he looks up to and keep him in shape on court. His brothers are ranked highly in Buckinghamshire and also display the will to win. At the moment I am trying to develop Benji's serve alongside his co-ordination as his body develops.

Despite only being 5yrs old, Benji has played over 50 competitive matches and reached the final of his first tournament a couple of weeks ago. I really hope the Stoke Park members can get behind Benji and any other Juniors that demonstrate great potential to "keep the dream alive" that one day Stoke Park will produce a player on centre court at Wimbledon.

Junior Roll Up

We will be starting a junior roll up on Friday evenings from 18:00 until 19:30. The first session will be the 7th February and all the pros will be present on this session to start the ball rolling and answer any questions from parents. It is aged at children from 7 to 15 years and will involve fun drills and match play. There is no charge for this session and no need to book in advance, just turn up and the night and join in.

As with all junior sessions at Stoke Park, a parent must remain on site throughout the roll up in case of any difficulties.

Box Leagues

Please complete all box league matches before March to enable the results to be calculated and the courts left free for the start of the Championship matches? If there are any problems, please speak to Phil or Dan as extensions cannot be given.
