Stoke Park was founded in 1908 as the first Country Club in Britain. It was the vision of the Club's founder, renowned Sporting Journalist and founder of The Corinthian Sporting Club, Nick 'Pa' Lane Jackson, that he would create a unique place where the finest sporting facilities of the time could be enjoyed in breathtaking surroundings - a vision that is still alive today.
The estate dates back to the Domesday Book, when King William I presented it to William de Stoke (who subsequently gave it his name). Queen Elizabeth I owned the estate between 1581 and 1603, and King Charles I was held prisoner here in 1647. The lakes were designed in 1750 by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, whilst much of the Club's present parkland was created during the 1790s by the eighteenth century's other great landscape designer, Humphry Repton. Originally the private home of the Penn family (founders of Pennsylvania), this Grade I Palladian Mansion was designed by the architect to King George III, James Wyatt, and completed in 1795. Within the 50,000 square foot building are the Mansion's 21 bedrooms, all individually designed and furnished with fine art, priceless antiques, sumptuously comfortable beds, en-suite marble bathrooms and open fires. The Three AA Rosette fine dining restaurant, Humphry's, the President's Bar, Orangery and eight conference rooms are also located within the Mansion.
The Pavilion comprises of 28 bedrooms, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, dance studio, spinning studio, three indoor carpet tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, the spa, steam rooms, changing rooms, San Marco's Restaurant and games room. The sun bathing garden in front of the pool is Health and Tennis and Health Members only.
The Club's 27 hole 1908 Championship Golf Course was the first course designed by the greatest course architect of his generation, Harry Colt. The course's signature hole, the par 3 seventh, was the inspiration for one of the most famous holes in the world, Augusta National's sixteenth.
Stoke Park Spa is the Club's Award-Winning Spa, featuring a dedicated Spa Atrium, a stunning tropical aquarium, deep relaxation room and 11 spa treatment rooms, including a hydrotherapy room. The Spa offers luxurious Thalgo treatments.
Fun filled games, consoles and an outdoor play area at the newly opened Crèche provides entertainment for your little ones while you enjoy a round of golf or visit the spa for some pampering. The Crèche is available to all Members' children from ages 0-8 years old. For more information about the Creche, please click here.

Health and Tennis and Health Members Signing In
It is a Club Rule that everyone must sign in at the Pavilion Spa Reception before using any of the facilities (even when just going through to San Marco). This must be done on every visit, without exception, by handing over your membership card on arrival to be swiped in on our computers. Please allow time for this, as all staff will be requesting you to do so on every visit, irrespective on how long you have been a Member or how familiar you are to them.
If you forget your membership card, you will be asked to sign in manually with a proof of identification, otherwise access may be denied. Those that forget their membership card on a regular basis will have a new one ordered for them for the appropriate fee (see below).
Members must have their membership card with them at all times when on the premises. All junior members must have their membership card with them and hand it in on each visit also.
All replacement cards will generate a new membership number (just like when you change credit cards) this allows us to cancel access to your levy, the changing rooms and gym from you old card. Due to this we will not allow membership numbers to be verbally quoted anymore in San Marco as a form of payment. If you do not have your membership card with you, another form of payment will be requested. All cards must have a valid photograph, so if your card does not have a photograph or the photograph is out of date (especially for children) we will be replacing your card for free. When you are next in we will take a photo at Reception and print a new card, whilst you are on the premises.
Going forward any broken cards will be replaced free of charge as long as the card that is broken is handed in at the time, but any member who loses their card will be charged £10 for a replacement one.
From the 31st March 2012 the price of a guest pass is £20 for a child and £35 for an adult. All guests must be signed in at the Spa Reception and a receipt obtained for the payment. This receipt must be carried by the guest at all times whilst they remain on the premises.
Please remember that all guests must be signed in by a Member and will not be allowed to enter any part of the Pavilion until this has been completed. This may take a couple of minutes, so please leave yourself time to complete this before commencing your enjoyment of the Club.
It has come to our attention that some members have been not paying for their guests to use the sporting and leisure facilities, this is breaking the Club Rules and your membership may be withdrawn if you are caught doing this in the future. I would also like to confirm that guests may only visit the Club a maximum of six times per membership year.
Speeding and Noise
Please note there is a maximum speed limit of 20mph for cars on the drive, please adhere to this as there is always a number of children on the premises. We also request loud music not to be played whilst coming up the drive, as this causes a major distraction for the golfers. Please also park in the designated parking bays.
Use of Facilities
Please do not let anyone enter the gym or the changing rooms if they knock on the door. They should go to Reception to make sure they have the right accreditation.
We would like to remind all members that no member or guest under the age of 16 is allowed to use the gym equipment and only Tennis and Health members can use the tennis courts.
To reinforce all of the above we will be making periodic spot checks. We hope that you understand the importance of this and support the management and staff.

During the Summer, the Club's al fresco furniture is in place outside the Orangery and San Marco. There is also a secluded sunbathing terrace, situated adjacent to the pool. Drinks and food can be served from San Marco and The Orangery, so we respectfully request that Members do not bring their own picnics onto the estate.

Internal events range from themed Gourmet Evenings for 50 Members and guests, to The Summer Ball for 400, and Bonfire Night for 1,000. All of our events are booked on a first come first served basis, and it is advisable to book early (especially for larger events such as The Summer Ball or Bonfire Night). Spa, Atrium and Deep Relaxation Room
These areas are for those Members and guests who are having a spa treatment only. They are robe only areas, and these robes are provided to those using the Spa. Members and guests under the age of 16 are not permitted within these Spa only areas at any time.
With three licensed rooms and a dedicated team of Coordinators, Stoke Park provides a perfect setting for a Civil Marriage Ceremony and Wedding Receptions. Members can enjoy a 5% discount on the published rates. Full details are available from the Event Sales Office on 01753 717171 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ball games are only allowed on the West Garden lawn next to the playground. Tennis courts are strictly for tennis activity only.
Italian marble steam rooms are located in each of the Pavilion's changing rooms. You should take a cool shower after your session to reduce your body temperature gradually and relax completely. If you have not used a steam room before, it is recommended that you limit your first sessions to five minutes maximum, followed by a lukewarm shower. Please consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant, on any form of medication, or suffer from high blood pressure. In the interest of hygiene, we respectfully request that Members use towels in the steam rooms and refrain from the use of essential oils and exfoliants, and the consumption of food and beverage. Please note children under 16 are not permitted to use the steam rooms.
The studio timetable features around 40 regular weekly classes with sessions ranging from Step, Studio Cycling to Yoga and Pilates, together with individual master classes, demonstrations, and specific-discipline courses.
The studio timetable is updated on a monthly basis, and is available from the Pavilion and Gum Reception during the last week of the preceding month. The current timetable can also be downloaded from the gym page.
Please note that anyone wishing to take part in a studio session at the club must book, up to 24 hours in andvance, with the Pavilion Reception and should always leave a contact number when they do so. This enables us to increase the efficiency of communication between Members and the Club, and ensure that the service provided is the best it can be.
Due to the class size restrictions of many of the sessions, and the fact that a waiting list is often in operation, it is also imperative that, should you be unable to attend a session, you contact the Club as soon as possible. Some charges will be levied as appropriate.
In the interest of personal safety, you will not be able to join a class if you arrive more than ten minutes after its scheduled start time.
The Club reserves the right to close studios and cancel programmes / classes as required.
